Nootka | Sea Wolf Art Print | Signed & Numbered
Still. Watchful. Entirely at home at the edge of the world.
The sea wolf is a genetically distinct group of wolves unique to the Pacific Northwest, found along the island-dotted coastline of British Columbia. They are one of the planet's most extraordinary predators, and almost no one knows they exist.
The sea wolves of BC's islands are the only wolves that subsist primarily on a marine-based diet — roaming rugged shorelines in search of salmon, fish eggs, barnacles, clams, and beached whale and seal carcasses. They are great swimmers, observed crossing 6–7 miles of open, frigid Pacific water between islands in both summer and winter. It's been said they swim like otters and fish like bears.
Part of the ongoing Wild Wonder series by Sara Kozak, created in Sequim, Washington — at the southern edge of the sea wolf's world.
